Triple digits are in full swing in Placer County, with not much relief in sight. Experts can’t recommend strongly enough the importance to taking heed and staying hydrated.

Placer County’s Office of Emergency Services has several useful tips for seniors trying to cope with the heat. If you are living without air conditioning or otherwise unable to avoid the heat, please take special note.

  • Avoid the outdoors between 1 and 6pm
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Wear lightweight, loose clothing
  • Use sunscreen and wear a protective hat

While the County only opens cooling centers if temperatures are 105 degrees and over for 3 consecutive days with night time temperatures staying above 75 degrees, all Placer County libraries are pre-designated as cooling centers and are open to seniors during regular business hours. Shopping malls, movie theaters, and restaurants are other convenient places to ditch the heat.
