Shirley and Candy Kisses

Shirley and Candy Kisses

Shirley has spent most of her life taking care of other people. For 25 years, she served as a prison chaplain, ministering to people many had given up on. When health challenges began making daily tasks difficult in 2024, she understood better than most what it takes to accept the kind of help she’d spent a lifetime giving. That June, she enrolled in Meals on Wheels.

Through every one of life’s hardest transitions, including the loss of her spouse and a move to a new community, one companion has never left Shirley’s side. Candy Kisses, her 11-year-old poodle, is there every single day. Shirley’s daughter lives nearby and visits every week, and Candy Kisses keeps her company in between.

That’s why Shirley was so glad to learn about AniMEALS. Hauling heavy bags of dog food had become nearly impossible for her. Volunteers now bring pet food right to her doorstep along with her own meals, making sure Shirley and Candy Kisses both have what they need.

For Shirley, it’s not just convenience; it’s peace of mind. Knowing Candy Kisses is cared for means she can keep caring for the companion who has carried her through so much.

Support from neighbors is what makes moments like these possible. If giving is on your heart today, we’re grateful.
