Meals & Nutrition
Securing proper nutrition can become challenging as we age. A lack of transportation, limited physical abilities, or financial limitations often make a trip to the grocery store or meal preparation a near impossible task.
This fact, coupled with the heightened rates of senior food-insecurity and hunger, make Placer County seniors particularly vulnerable to the negative health implications of inadequate nutrition.
It is a hard fact that in Placer County nearly 30,000 adults age 60 and over do not know with certainty where their next meal will come from. Food insecure seniors are not necessarily food insecure all the time; it may simply reflect a need to make trade-offs between important basic needs, such as housing, utilities or prescription medication and purchasing nutritionally adequate food – a decision no one should have to make.
Seniors First is dedicated to helping alleviate these challenges by offering two different meal options for older adults:
Senior Cafés
We provide hot, healthy lunches three days a week at our cafés and five days a week at the Lincoln Senior Center. Our Senior Cafés are lively gathering places that help maintain our clients’ sense of community and connectedness.
Meals are provided for a small optional contribution. No one is ever turned away for lack of financial resources.
The suggested donation for seniors age 60+ is $3.00. There is a mandatory charge of $6.00 for anyone under 60, unless accompanied by their senior spouse. Cash and checks are accepted for meal contributions.
Reservations are required. For more information or to make a reservation please call (530) 878-5731.
Transportation to our Senior Cafés is available for inbound seniors. To schedule transportation to a Café site, please call a transportation representative at (530) 889-9500.
Meals on Wheels Placer County
