Janise has always valued her independence. When weakness began making everyday tasks harder in early 2026, accepting help wasn’t an easy decision. She recognized that a little support would let her focus on what mattered most, healing and holding on to the life she’d built. In May, she enrolled in Meals on Wheels.
She didn’t come alone. At the center of Janise’s world is Amber, her 13-year-old Goldendoodle. Amber is more than a pet; she’s routine, comfort, and a reason to get up every morning.
For seniors like Janise, that kind of companionship matters. It eases isolation and brings joy to days that can otherwise feel long and quiet.
Through our AniMEALS program, Janise receives help for both of them. Volunteers deliver nutritious meals to her door, along with healthy dog food and treats for Amber. Before AniMEALS, seniors in Janise’s position often faced an impossible choice: share their own meals with their pets, or watch a beloved companion go without.
Neither of them has to go without now. Because of Meals on Wheels and AniMEALS, Janise and Amber get to stay together, independent, healthy, and connected to each other.
